Studio 35 Minutes
Finished

Artists

Kensuke Kazama
Kensuke Kazama (1960-2017) in his 20s has travelled across Japan before settling in Hokkaido's Yubari in 1989. Yubari was a prosperous city known for its coal mines but in 1990, two years after Kazama moved in, the last mine closed. Kazama continued to live in Yubari and photograph the city that now lost popularity, for sixteen more years.
Kazama used to sell his works and try to make a living of it. His ideas were unrealistic for which he struggled financially. The presented works convey the nature of time that carries the contradictions of humans, pass and the rise and fall of civilizations.
