In 2023, the 150th anniversary of the birth of Hankyu Toho Group founder Ichizo Kobayashi, the Itsuo Museum of Art will hold a series of exhibitions looking back on his accomplishments.
The first exhibition, "Hankyu Showa Modern Illustrated Book" will focus on life along the Hankyu lines in the 1920s and 1930s. During this period, the Hankyu Railway was made more convenient, department stores were expanded, suburban residential areas were developed, theaters and stadiums were enlarged, and amusement parks were expanded and improved one after another.
It was also Kobayashi Ichizo's wish to "create an ideal world where people can enjoy living along the railway lines." Based on the above, the "Showa Modern" style of enjoying the new culture of the city and suburbs bloomed along the Hankyu line. The Takarazuka Girls' Revue is a representative example.
This exhibition features a variety of materials from the Ikeda Bunko collection, including posters, in-train advertisements, photographs, fashion magazines, and video recordings.
