Artists

Rokuro Taniuchi
Rokuro Taniuchi, from the establishment of Shukan Shincho in 1956 until his passing in 1981, produced approximately 1,300 cover illustrations over four decades. Yokosuka Museum of Art rotates his work four times a year, offering various perspectives into Taniuchi's world of cover illustrations.

This exhibition focuses on Taniuchi's iconic theme of "musical instruments" depicted on the covers of "Shukan Shincho." Taniuchi not only portrays scenes of musicians playing instruments but also metaphorically represents every day sounds like natural phenomena such as wind and rain through musical instruments. This approach reflects his sensitivity to "sound" and his unique humorous essence in appreciating the changing seasons.
