The Naritasan National Calligraphy Competition, which began in 1985, is now celebrating its 40th year. Over the approximately 40 years from the end of the Showa era to the present Reiwa era, many talented calligraphers have flourished. Among them are those who have been deeply involved in the management of the calligraphy competition.
The expression of calligraphy has diversified from the post-war period to the 1950s. Taking on the challenges of maturity and new expressions over these 40 years, this exhibition looks back on the trajectory of this era, exploring the charm of "modern calligraphy," where techniques have deepened, and various expressions and forms have been developed.
