Artists

Shigeru Hatsuyama
Shigeru Hatsuyama (1897-1973) first attracted attention at the age of 22 when he published the children's story magazine "Otogi no Sekai" (The World of Fairy Tales). For more than 50 years from the Taisho era to the Showa era, he was an indispensable artist in the world of "children's pictures. Even now, 50 years after his death, his paintings remain full of freshness.

This exhibition traces the life of Shigeru Hatsuyama, showing not only his children's drawings and woodblock prints, but also his manga, book illustrations, and never-before-seen picture book originals.
