This year marks two historic milestones, 80 years after the end of the Battle of Okinawa and 50 years after the end of the Vietnam War. Now that these memories intersect, we look at the past through the power of art and quietly question the future.
In this exhibition, we will introduce the works of artists who have roots in Vietnam or who are deeply involved in Vietnam since the modern era, as well as exhibit selected works related to Vietnam from the collection of the museum. Okinawa and Vietnam: We aim to be a place where the history and culture of the two regions intersect and foster deep empathy and understanding.
In addition, we will focus on the "Nguyen van Chang Painting Preservation and Restoration Project" promoted by the Mitani Cultural Arts Protection Information Dissemination Project, and expand the significance of the exhibition from the viewpoint of preservation of art heritage.
I sincerely hope that this exhibition will help bring the voices of Okinawa and Vietnam to the future, and to spun a wish for peace through art to the next generation.
