ARKO (Artist in Residence Kurashiki, Ohara) is an artist-in-residence program implemented by the Ohara Museum of Art since FY2005, aiming to "support young artists," "utilize the studio used by Torajiro Kojima, a Western-style painter who laid the foundation of the Ohara Museum of Art," and "promote art from Kurashiki. The artists selected through a public call for proposals are invited to participate in the residency program.
Artists selected from the public are invited to stay in Kurashiki for up to three months to create works in the atelier of Mutaimura-so, where Torajiro Kojima used as his base of operations, and the completed works are exhibited at the Ohara Museum of Art. Natsuko Tanihara was selected as an invited artist for "ARKO2020," but due to the spread of COVID-19 infection, ARKO had to be postponed. The artist-in-residence program "ARKO2023" will finally take place in Tanihara, and the completed work will be exhibited at the Ohara Museum of Art's Crafts Gallery (Shiko Munakata Room).
