"Neo Bijinga 2022" is a group of 20 works by manga artist Akiko Higashimura, the creator of numerous hit manga titles such as "Tokyo Tarareba Musume" and "Princess of the Sea Moon."
A graduate of Kanazawa College of Art with a major in oil painting, Higashimura had long harbored a desire for fine art. The series of works, which depict contemporary "Japanese beauty" in the form of kimonos, were created over a long period, one at a time, and Higashimura wrote the text that introduces the narrative world that unfolds through the kimono patterns.
The stage for her full-fledged foray into fine art is the NFT platform. This year's exhibition is the commemorative first installment of a five-year plan to produce 20 NFT works each year for five years. This body of work will be sold on the NFT marketplace "Adam byGMO," but will also be available for viewing in the real world at the exhibition venue. The exhibition will be a fusion of "digital (NFT)" and "real (solo exhibition)," and will also allow those who are not yet familiar with NFT to enjoy Akiko Higashimura's works as contemporary art.
