CLEAR GALLERY TOKYO is pleased to present a solo exhibition by Akiya Aimi.
Aimi interrogates contemporary portraiture through a recursive collage method that alternates between AI-generated fragments and painterly intervention. By inserting material procedures—paint, paper, resin—into the velocity of the digital, the works visualize the instant when an image regains “body.”
While AI’s impersonal vision disassembles and flattens bodily signs, the artist’s manual recomposition re-establishes connections, staging a distributed subject that hovers between human and machine. The exhibition architecture emphasizes the transition from image to object, drawing the screen-accustomed gaze back to the thickness of the picture plane. With a growing record of awards and institutional purchases, Aimi articulates a proposal for posthuman portraiture in the language of painting.
