Amazing China - The Profound World of Chinese Art

Matsuoka Museum of Art
Finished
From the museum's extensive collection of Chinese art, this exhibition features lacquerware, ceramics, jade objects, and paintings from the Ming and Qing dynasties, along with gilt bronze Buddhas from the Northern Qi and Tang dynasties.

The Matsuoka Collection of Chinese art offers an unparalleled world of light sources. We hope that visitors will enjoy the excellence of craftsmanship and the depth of culture nurtured by the museum's long history.

This year's exhibition features a selection of Ming and Qing paintings from the museum's collection, which were widely introduced last year, with a special focus on the excellent paintings and scrolls selected under the supervision of Professor Seitetsu Itakura of the Institute of Oriental Culture at the University of Tokyo.

The exhibition will also include as many titles and inscriptions as possible, which was not possible in the previous exhibition and will show the interaction between painters and cultural figures during the Ming and Qing dynasties.

The "Jade White Cabbage Vase" from the museum's collection of Qing dynasty jade vessels, which is similar in superb technique to the "Jade White Cabbage" in the National Palace Museum in Taiwan, and the "Jade White Cabbage Vase" with carved tao-tie and phoenix patterns from ancient Chinese bronzes, will provide a taste of the growing trend in the Qing dynasty of "Min" and "Ancient" styles.

In response to many visitors' requests, the museum will once again exhibit one of its most popular pieces, the "Celestial Vase with Dragon and Dragon Arabesque Design in Blue Flowers," which is one of only a few pieces in the world from the Ming dynasty. The various techniques used in Jingdezhen official kiln ware of the Ming and Qing dynasties are also a highlight of the exhibition.
