Ami Shibata
Komiyamatokyo G will host the solo exhibition "Auspicious Animals Exhibition" by Ami Shibata. This marks her first exhibition as a painter, featuring approximately 20 works including tropical-hued pieces that can be said to represent the origins of the artist, and imaginary animals like dragons dancing in the sea of clouds, decorating the venue like a picture scroll. Since debuting as a manga artist in 1991 with "Nangoku Shounen Papuwa-kun," Shibata, who has been drawing somewhat strange and adorable creatures, pursues that worldview in her canvas works as well. By depicting animals with her unique colors, she elevates motifs she has long illustrated to a new dimension. Please enjoy this collection of affectionate works, filled with the artist's thoughts, such as deformed shapes of clouds and waves, and innovative color schemes found in eyes and scales.
