Ancient Japanese Transportation History— Harima

Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Archaeology
Finished
Around 1300 years ago, during Japan's nation-building phase, ekiya facilities were established along the San'yodo, connecting Nara and Dazaifu. These ekiya served as relay stations for messengers traveling on horseback. The Harima region has many ekiya sites, the locations of which can be inferred from archaeological remains, and the museum has been continuously conducting excavation research since its opening. This research has led to new discoveries, including ekiya structures mentioned in historical records. This exhibition will showcase the findings and the ancient transportation infrastructure, drawing from research within the prefecture and along the San'yodo.

*Please note that some of the exhibits may be changed during the exhibition period.
