In Conversation marks the first joint solo exhibition of Andres Fehr, a Tokyo-based artist born in Basel, Switzerland, and Maki Fehr, a Tokyo-born artist raised in New York, at Esther Okada Art Gallery. Though each has pursued an independent artistic practice, their works have evolved in parallel over more than three decades of continuous dialogue.
As they assembled the works for this exhibition, the quiet synergy between them became newly apparent. When placed side by side, their individual pieces blended naturally into a unified visual expression—complementing each other with an ease that felt both effortless and inevitable. Together, Andres and Maki Fehr embrace the idea that every work they create carries subtle traces of the other. The exhibition traces this ongoing, unspoken conversation shaped over 35 years of shared exploration.
Working from their shared studio in Tokyo, the artists have long exchanged ideas on visual language, form, and concept. In Conversation celebrates this intertwined creative relationship, presenting paired works that reflect their mutual influence while maintaining their distinct artistic voices.
Their current practice continues to build on this foundation as they develop new concepts for large-scale installation pieces—extending their lifelong dialogue into new spatial and conceptual territory.
