This exhibition by Anju Shimoie is a pop-up project of Submarine Gallery,
Shimoie has been strongly influenced by various manga and animations from both past and present, while also captivated by the classical and unique texture of oil painting. Thus, she continues to express her imaginative world on canvas, effectively blending subculture and fine art.
The innocent and pure eyes of the characters, their humorous expressions, the dynamic movements, the nuanced soft contour lines, and the delicate paintings evoke a sense of depth. Her world, which somehow gives viewers a sense of nostalgia, comfort, and happiness, has garnered attention not only domestically but also internationally.
This solo exhibition showcases not only Shimoie's charm but also her new attempts at expression, including monochrome works with a black and strange taste that evoke the transience and bitterness of life, as well as modern print works with a flat-screen composition.
This exhibition will showcase approximately 20 ambitious works that demonstrate the depth and breadth of the "layers of emotions" carved into the screen with the painting techniques she has cultivated over the years, revealing the richness of Anju Shimoie's world.
