Nagoya Castle, large parts of which were destroyed during World War II, was restored with a high degree of authenticity thanks to the many records kept by means of measured maps and glass dry plate photographs. However, the records were not perfect, and it is believed that there were numerous omissions and gaps in the data. The imagination of the people responsible for the restoration work must have been used to fill in the blanks. History, or historical remains, are depicted and reconstructed by combining fragments and pieces that have been discovered and excavated, supplemented by the knowledge and imagination of experts.
Art Site Nagoya Castle was inspired by this kind of restoration work, and the four artists were inspired by the history of Nagoya Castle, the Honmaru Palace, which opened to the public in 2018, and the Ninomaru Garden, which is still undergoing restoration and maintenance, The works will be created by using their imagination based on their unique perspectives, transforming Nagoya Castle into an art site.
