Asian Pottery – Beautiful Colors and Shapes

Shusui Museum of Art
Finished
Asia is at the heart of pottery culture. Furthermore, China, which pioneered the invention of porcelain, exported it as a commodity, bringing excellent works to the Korean Peninsula, Japan, Southeast Asian countries, as well as distant Islamic nations and Europe. Various ceramics produced in China, especially from the Song to Qing dynasties, were incorporated into the Japanese tea ceremony and treasured as valuable artifacts. Influenced by China, porcelain began to be produced in Japan in the early 17th century, leading to active research on porcelain-making techniques in Europe and causing a significant global impact.

This exhibition will showcase pottery created in Asia, primarily focusing on China, along with pieces from Korea and Japan. We will highlight the beautiful "colors" and diverse, unique "forms" of ceramics, providing an accessible introduction to their charm.
