Kijiro Ota, Kozaburo Takeishi, Torajiro Kojima et al.
While numerous Japanese students studying painting and sculpture flocked to Paris, France, before World War II, a small number chose Belgium as their study destination. These were painters Kijiro Ota (1883-1951) and Torajiro Kojima (1881-1929) and sculptor Kozaburo Takeishi (1877-1963). This exhibition focuses on these three artists and other related artists, and introduces aspects of the reception of Belgian art in prewar Japan through approximately 100 works and documents, with an emphasis on printed materials and exhibitions from the period.
