In 1962, Yves Saint Laurent (1936-2008) and Pierre Bergé (1930-2017) co-founded the couture house. The haute couture division, based in Rue Marceau, was closed in 2002 to create the Fondation Pierre Bergé-Yves Saint Laurent. Known as a public benefit foundation, its main purpose is to preserve and transmit the couturier's work. After the foundation's dissolution in 2016, it was reborn as a museum in 2017.
In 2019, Betty Catroux donated 500 works to the Pierre Bergé-Yves Saint Laurent Foundation. Soon after, Madison Cox, President of the Foundation, and Saint Laurent Paris conceived this exhibition dedicated to Betty Catroux and entrusted Saint Laurent Creative Director Anthony Vaccarello with its supervision. Vaccarello's perspective on Betty Catroux's wardrobe is extremely insightful, vividly illuminating Betty's unique personality and her enduring impact on the style the brand has preserved.
This exhibition is a tribute to Betty, Yves Saint Laurent's fashion icon as well as his "other half," and reveals her modern womanhood and style in all its glory.
