Chizuko Kojima
Chizuko Kojima (1916-2022) was born in Yokkaichi, Mie Prefecture, the second daughter of five siblings in the Okadaya kimono store that has been in business since the Edo period. However, her parents passed away early, and Chizuko became the center of the family and took charge of the family business. Later, at the age of 23, she became the representative director of Okadaya Drapery Shop, Inc. and launched Jusco (now Aeon Co., Ltd.) from Okadaya, where she was in charge of employee training and personnel affairs as an executive.

After retiring from management, he taught himself to make ceramics in his 70s and spent most of his time at home in his studio. It was not until 12 years later, at the age of 82, that he achieved his original goal of 3,000 pieces.

In March 2003, he opened the Paramita Museum in Ohaneen, Komono-cho, Mie Prefecture, to house and exhibit the artworks he had collected over the past 60 years since his 20s. He later donated the facility and its collection to the Okada Cultural Foundation, a public interest incorporated foundation that provides cultural grants in Mie Prefecture and became the honorary director of the Paramita Museum.

This exhibition will review the history of Chizuko Kojima's ceramics, which challenged various forms of expression, including vessels and ceramic dolls.
