To celebrate the relocation opening of its Omotesando store, Maison Margiela will hold "Cinema Inferno," an off-site installation showcasing the latest 2022 "Artisanal” collection.
This large-scale installation is based on the story "Cinema Inferno" conceived by Creative Director John Galliano. Last July, at the presentation of the 2022 Artisanal collection at the Palais de Chaillot in Paris, John Galliano collaborated with the British theater company Imitating the Dog to create a performance assemblage that combines haute couture, film, and theater to tell this story.
The result is Cinema Inferno, a performance piece that combines haute couture, film, and theater. The performance piece was further developed into a theatrical installation that visually expresses the story and theme, and presented at the Maison's headquarters in Paris this January in conjunction with the "Co-Ed" collection show.
The installation in Tokyo retraces the story based on the Parisian format but with an original exhibition structure. Cinema Inferno" by John Galliano will continue with a new narrative from this exhibition until the opening of the Omotesando store on August 10.
