Since 2020, Gimgoanheng has presented “City Patterns” as a curatorial project, blending a century of textile heritage with contemporary pattern design to reinterpret Taiwanese culture. Inspired by streetscapes, architecture, and everyday objects, we transform them into visual motifs, building a design language that “makes Taiwan visible.” The exhibition has toured over 20 venues in Taiwan, Malaysia, and Thailand, using textile art to share Taiwan’s stories with the world.
The “City Patterns” exhibition showcases Gimgoanheng’s signature pattern designs, with each installation tailored to the unique character of its space. Through the textures of fabric, visitors can experience the nuances of local Taiwanese culture. Some exhibitions also feature pop-up shops and limited-edition items, transforming the act of viewing into a tangible, take-home cultural experience—bringing the aesthetics of Taiwan into everyday life.
From galleries to boutique hotels, from department stores to the corners of old streets, “City Patterns” has traveled through a wide range of spaces—allowing each venue to breathe life into the patterns in its own way. We adapt the layout and textile presentation to suit each location, integrating thematic design, guided experiences, and curated products to craft exhibitions that truly reflect the stories of their surroundings.
At every “City Patterns” exhibition, we bring more than just fabric and design—we aim to step into each space and engage directly with visitors. We share the inspirations behind our creations and listen to stories from different communities. Through artist talks, guided tours, and on-site conversations, the exhibition becomes a platform for mutual cultural exchange, drawing us closer to the many layers of Taiwan and the world.
“City Patterns” is a curatorial project designed to be both adaptable and locally rooted. We plan to continue expanding its reach through exhibitions across Taiwan and abroad. We warmly invite cultural venues, boutique hotels, brand collaborators, and all who share a passion for Taiwanese culture to join us on this ongoing journey through pattern and place.
