The Museum of Modern Art, Wakayama opened in November 1970 on the first floor of the Wakayama Prefectural Culture Hall as the fifth national and public modern art museum in Japan. In 1994, both museums moved to the current building designed by Kisho Kurokawa.

The museum has been introducing and collecting mainly artists associated with Wakayama and has expanded the scope of its collection to include work from outside of the country as well. The museum's collection is continuously introduced through exhibitions that change with the seasons to provide visitors with a broad range of artistic expression through the museum's collection. This year's exhibition will introduce work related to India, seasonal Japanese paintings from autumn to winter, masterpieces from the museum collection, and a special exhibition of work donated by Tsuneko Tanaka.

This exhibition introduces approximately 150 of these works, focusing on those donated in recent years.
