Ikko Narahara et al.
The Museum of Modern Art, Wakayama opened in November 1970 on the first floor of the Wakayama Prefectural Citizens' Cultural Center as the fifth national and public modern art museum in Japan. In 1994, both museums moved to the current building designed by Kisho Kurokawa.

The museum has been introducing and collecting artists associated with Wakayama and has expanded the scope of its collection to include works from outside of the country as well. The museum's collection is exhibited seasonally to introduce visitors to a wide range of artistic expressions through the museum's collections.

The "Collection Exhibition Spring 2023" will be held in two rooms on the first floor, Exhibition Rooms A and B. In conjunction with the exhibition, "Flying Away: Mitsuo Ikeda and Democrat Artists" (February 4 - April 9, 2023), this exhibition will first introduce works by Kansai print artists who are descended from the democrat artists who pioneered a new world of printmaking in the postwar era. The exhibition will continue with masterpieces of Japanese and Western-style paintings with a sense of spring, and then move on to modern and contemporary art expression, with a focus on sculptures.

In addition, works by Ikko Narahara (1931-2020) will be featured in the "New Collection: The Photography of Ikko Narahara."
