Kazuo Shiraga, Toshimitsu Imai, Hisao Domoto, Kumi Sugai, Kenzo Okada et al.
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Kazuo Shiraga (1924-2008), who continued his lifelong production in Amagasaki, his hometown. To commemorate this occasion, we will hold a special exhibition by carefully selecting masterpieces and representative works of Shiraga from the collection, utilizing two permanent exhibition rooms. Additionally, in conjunction with the special exhibition "Soulages and Morita Koryu," works by Toshimitsu Imai, Hisao Domoto, Kumi Sugai, and Kenzo Okada, who were active in Paris and New York during the 1950s and 60s and had connections with Shiraga and Morita will be displayed. Also on showcase are Western prints, including works by artists such as Alechinsky and Tapies, who have deep ties to calligraphy and characters, as introduced in the magazine "Bokubi" by Koryu Morita. Viewing these collections alongside the special exhibition will allow visitors to enjoy the individual expressions of the artists, all stemming from common interests.
In the Ryohei Kiso Memorial Room and the Heizo Kanayama Memorial Room, the exhibition will delve into small themes using parts of the exhibition rooms. In Exhibition Rooms 5 and 6, we will display masterpieces of sculpture and painting, respectively.
