Collection Exhibition IV - Nihonga / Calligraphy / Craft / Sculpture

Yonago City Museum of Art
Finished
The Yonago City Museum of Art opened on June 17, 1983, and celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. To commemorate this milestone, the history of the museum's 40 years of art collection will be divided into four periods and introduced: Phase I - Photography, Phase II - Printmaking, Phase III - Western Painting, and Phase IV - Japanese Painting, Calligraphy, Crafts, and Sculpture.

In Phase IV, the exhibition "The Nature's Form" will be held in the second exhibition room featuring Japanese painting, calligraphy, and crafts. In the first exhibition room, the sculpture exhibition "Art Speaks" will be held.

In the Japanese painting, calligraphy, and crafts section, the exhibition will focus on works depicting nature as the main theme. In Japanese painting, artists such as Kouboku Kanazawa and Kiyo Kachiya have depicted local scenic spots, while calligraphers like Kyosho Hirose have expressed beautiful landscapes of tranquil residences. Additionally, craftsman Kanjiro Kawai has engaged in creative activities imbued with his unique perspective on nature. The exhibition will introduce how nature has been expressed by artists in the realm of art.

The sculpture section will primarily exhibit representational works by local sculptors with ties to the region. The western part of Tottori Prefecture, including artists like Kaiteki Toda, Seiichi Kineya, Shindo Tsuji, Katsushige Nakahashi, and outdoor sculptures created at the "Yonago Sculpture Symposium," is known for its connection to modern and contemporary sculpture, forming a sculpture road. The exhibition will trace the history of local sculpture passed down through generations and introduce the stories told by the artworks.
