Colours Resonate with Each Other: Sancai and Wucai

Sunritz Hattori Museum of Arts
Finished
Rich sensibility and advanced technology have led to the creation of numerous masterpieces of ceramics in China. These ceramics, decorated with a variety of techniques such as lustrous glazes and intricate patterns, convey the aesthetic sense of the people at that time.
Among these, the most famous are sancai (three-colour) and Wucai (five-colour). While sancai is made by applying glaze over the base material, Wucai is made by painting patterns using overglaze paint and both are widely known for their vivid colours.
This exhibition brings together masterpieces of sancai and Wucai from the collection of the Sunritz Hattori Museum of Arts. We hope the visitors to enjoy the charm of colourful Chinese ceramics.
