Hazan Itaya
In commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Itaya Hazan (real name: Kashichi, 1872—1963), who is known as one of the pioneers of modern ceramic art, the Museum will present a retrospective exhibition featuring his life and works. In addition to experimenting sculptural patterns and various underglaze techniques, Hazan was an early adopter of the Art Nouveau style popular in Europe at the time and created new expressions of design in Japanese ceramics. He also studied ancient Chinese ceramics, producing his original celadon and white porcelain works. This exhibition will introduce the everlasting charm of Hazan’s art through the transition of his works.
