The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has defined the vision for metropolitan parks in the 2040s as parks that pass on rich greenery to future generations, create attractions that draw people from both Japan and abroad, and contribute to the well-being of individuals. To enhance the functions and value of all metropolitan parks, various initiatives are being undertaken.
Kasai Rinkai Aquarium and Kasai Rinkai Park have long maintained a deep connection with the sea. This year, honoring that history, Kasai Rinkai Park is hosting an art installation titled "Connected with the Sea. Journey through Art. - Harmony with Nature," where visitors can fully experience the charm of the expansive grounds.
During the event period, the Kasai Rinkai Aquarium will feature an installation themed "Connected with the Sea," where mist will envelop the aquarium's iconic glass dome, creating a world that feels connected to the ocean. At Kasai Rinkai Park, under the theme "Journey through Art," works by Mika Ninagawa with EiM will adorn the Crystal View, an observation rest house offering a panoramic view of Tokyo Bay. Additionally, pieces by Yoichi Ochiai, Naomi Kawase, and Yuichi Hirako will blend into a sunflower field of 40,000 blooming sunflowers, creating a new landscape. Enjoy a special summertime immersed in art that changes with time and weather, encounter living creatures in the aquarium connected to the sea, and feel the synergy of life, nature, and art.
