Edo Tokyo Rethink - Fusion of Takumi Craftmanship and Contemporary Art Perceived at the Kyu-Iwasaki-tei Gardenss

Former Iwasaki House Garden
Finished
The Edo Tokyo Kirari Project reexamines traditional techniques and products rooted in Edo Tokyo from a new perspective and disseminates them to the world. As part of this project, exhibitions and events are held to convey the new value of "Tokyo treasures" such as traditional skills and longstanding products from Edo Tokyo.

In this context, contemporary artist Noritaka Tatehana, who is active both domestically and internationally in the field of contemporary art, has been invited as the exhibition director. The venue, the Former Iwasaki House Garden, designated as an important cultural property, will serve as the setting. The exhibition collaborates with Noritaka Tatehana, who was appointed as a collaborator for the model project of the Edo Tokyo Kirari Project. The exhibition will serve as a starting point for Tatehana's creation process of "Rethink," which focuses on reconsidering traditional Japanese culture and determining what should be expressed for the future. It will propose the value and appeal of historical traditional industries in new forms. Since 2021, this exhibition has annually showcased newly created artworks and valuable historical materials held by model project participants. Additionally, some rooms in the house are decorated with "kinkarakawashi" paper, and such craftsmanship resonates with the exhibited artworks, adding to the exhibition's appeal.
