This is an exhibition of Eiji Uematsu's work dating from the 1980s to today, constituting a wide range of works from different periods of his career.
Over the course of his five-decade career, Uematsu has consistently explored his fascination with soil alongside his pure dialogue with nature. The characteristics of each material, such as the life-like movement of the mud and the cracks and distortions that appear on the surface of the clay, highlight traces of earth and fire from the kiln. The work reveals Uematsu's refusal to be bound by existing methodologies or his own consciousness; rather, he has unvaryingly focused on pursuing the emotions he feels from soil and nature. Through the forms he creates, Uematsu shows us irreplaceable landscapes sculpted by the passage of time that we may have overlooked in nature. He hopes his viewers will notice the textures of the earth and not his personal expressions. His work provides an opportunity to discover the precious time and space hidden in the ordinary landscapes seen every day.
