This exhibition by Enpei Ito will feature new sculptures and drawings of various friends living in the forest.
Ito has his studio in the rich nature of Ibaraki Prefecture. He has been in contact with various living creatures since he was a child, and was especially attracted to the small nature that spread out before his feet. While observing the ecology of these fragile yet powerful creatures, his imagination expanded, leading to his current unique worldview.
Born into a family of engravers that has been in existence since the Edo period (1603-1868), and with parents who also worked as ceramic artists, Ito naturally became interested in the world of art and majored in painting at university. The technique of glazing, in which layers of transparent paint are layered to create depth, which he learned in college, is utilized in all of his current paintings and three-dimensional works.
In this exhibition, Ito will present new sculptures and drawings of various friends living in the forest, focusing mainly on the world of mushrooms, which has been a particular interest of his in recent years.
