Eri Sakurai "Sudden Events That Shake You"

Shinjuku Ophthalmologist Gallery
Finished

Artists

Eri Sakurai
After the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, Eri Sakurai initially battled depression and halted Sakurai's creative pursuits. In 2021, a decade after the earthquake, the artist rekindled the artistic career, focusing on various forms like paintings, workshops, and videos. Sakurai's works consistently explore the concept of drawing strength from external sources, including nature and others, stemming from the artist's earthquake experience and health struggle. As the centenary of the Great Kanto Earthquake approaches, an exhibition on September 1st, 2023, will reflect on the earthquake's impact. The event showcases Sakurai's art from the past three years, offering a platform to contemplate confronting disasters, challenges, and embracing the uncontrollable.
