"Elmer's Adventure" is the story of a 9-year-old boy named Elmer who goes to rescue a dragon cub trapped on Animal Island. The Japanese editions have been published in the United States and are widely loved in Japan, where they have sold over 7 million copies as bestsellers.
Elmer, a young boy, leaves his home with his mother and father and sets off on an adventurous journey to save a dragon child and his family. Whenever he encounters difficulties with frightening animals, mysterious diseases, and adult humans, Elmer accepts them without confrontation and overcomes them with tact, using the tools and wisdom at his disposal. This attitude of accepting others who are different from oneself and using wisdom to solve problems without conflict is the message that author Ruth Stiles Gannett consistently conveys in his stories, not only to children but also to adults.
In this exhibition, the first of its kind in Japan, more than 130 rare original drawings and dummy books created more than 70 years ago will be on display for the first time in Japan. In addition, four exhibits will be prepared for visitors to enjoy Elmer's adventures in the exhibition hall, allowing them to enter and play in the world of the picture book.
