Exhibition of My Father's Dragon

Akashi City Museum of Culture
Finished
The "Elmer's Adventure" series, which has been loved worldwide for 76 years since its publication in the United States, is still cherished today. To commemorate the 60th anniversary of its Japanese edition, original illustrations and materials will be exhibited for the first time in Kansai following Tokyo.

"Elmer's Adventure" is a story of a 9-year-old boy named Elmer, who, without hurting anyone, uses his wisdom and wit to go on adventures to rescue captured dragons. From 1948 to 1951, three books, "Elmer's Adventure," "Elmer and the Dragon," and "Elmer and the 16 Dragons," were published in the United States and have been loved worldwide for over half a century. In this exhibition commemorating the 60th anniversary of the Japanese edition translated by Shigeo Watanabe, visitors will explore the story along with over 100 precious original drawings. Additionally, an exhibition where visitors can experience many of Elmer's adventures as if they were in the story will be prepared, allowing both adults and children to enjoy the world of "Elmer's Adventure."

Background information about the story will also be introduced, including childhood photos and notes of the author Ruth S. Gannett, as well as prototype books created together with her stepmother, Ruth C. Gannett, who was responsible for the illustrations.
