Featured Exhibition: Kofu Ishii and Artists from Boso Region

Chiba City Museum of Art
Finished
In conjunction with the 55th Chiba City Citizen Art Exhibition, the exhibition will introduce works by Kofu Ishii (1892-1975) from the collection of the Chiba City Museum of Art.

Kofu Ishii was a Western-style painter born in Iwafune, Namihana Village, Iso District (now Isumi City, Chiba Prefecture). He went to the United States in 1921 (Taisho 10) and four years later studied Western-style painting in Paris. His works, painted from various locations in the United States and Europe, convey the pure and hopeful feelings of the young artist. This exhibition, preceding the "Dual Perspectives of the East and the West: Kofu Ishii Exhibition" starting in April, will focus on works from his approximately ten-year stay in Europe, reflecting on Ishii's early days as an artist.
