Gentaro Kagawa
As a child, Gentaro Kagawa became deeply fascinated with maze play using wooden blocks made by his father. His interest in the intricate structure of Japanese castles, which were often difficult to navigate like mazes, led him to start exploring castles firsthand. Eventually, he began illustrating castles himself, becoming a renowned illustrator known for his meticulous and beautiful restoration illustrations of Japan's representative castles. His castle illustrations are based on traditional Japanese painting techniques, combined with thorough historical research and on-site surveys, effectively reviving visually the castles that have been lost over time.

This exhibition traces Gentaro Kagawa's childhood fascination with castles through playful activities like cardboard mazes and search-and-find pictures, inviting enjoyment and appreciation from both children and adults alike of his detailed and stunning castle illustrations from various locations across Japan, starting with Akashi Castle.
