Gallery 38 is pleased to announce the opening of “From the Ancient to the Present Times VI” on Saturday, January 10th. This exhibition, the fifth in a series, presents ancient artifacts and contemporary artworks in the same space to explore their allure and unchanging beauty.

Just as contemporary art reflects the situations and issues of modern society, ancient artifacts often reflect the societal context, values, and beliefs of their time. The mysterious nature of ancient artifacts inspires curiosity and invites us to imagine the stories and backgrounds behind them. Because they emerged from daily life and religious practices rather than being created as deliberate art pieces, they provide a unique glimpse into the worldview of their time. On the other hand, contemporary artworks reflect the artist's intentions and the cultural backdrop of the present, conveying messages that resonate uniquely with today’s society.

When viewing these works together, spanning from ancient times to the present, shared motifs, shapes, and colors become apparent. This demonstrates that the sense of "beauty" transcends time and culture while highlighting how new values emerge over time as societies evolve. The pottery featured in this exhibition goes beyond simple functionality, reflecting the culture, religious beliefs, and social characteristics of its time through its materials, techniques, and designs. Similarly, contemporary works incorporate modern materials and techniques, reflecting both the artist's unique expression and the character of the time.

Despite their different periods and purposes, both ancient and modern works possess a remarkable capacity to tell stories, drawing us in with their timeless beauty. Just as ancient artifacts have gained new significance over time through evolving perspectives, contemporary works emerging from today’s complex society may similarly be reinterpreted by future generations. We hope this exhibition encourages reflection on the limitless possibilities these works hold for the future.
