Fujiwo Ishimoto has worked as a textile designer for a leading Finnish lifestyle brand for 32 years, and then as a member of the Art Department Society of Arabia, the country's leading pottery manufacturer, from 1989 to 2019. His ceramic works, which evoke the beauty and sometimes harshness of nature, such as reliefs of colorful flowers in full bloom, continue to attract many fans.
In this exhibition, his first at Spiral in three years, Ishimoto will present new works with a motif of buds, which he created in a new environment after moving his base of activities from Finland to Matsuyama, Ehime Prefecture. The buds, which have survived the long winter and are just about to bloom, show the overflowing breath of life and the artist's earnest gaze toward nature.
In addition, colorful towels and cups from Mustakivi, a brand supervised by Ishimoto, will also be on display at the exhibition.
