They look like a dog and a rabbit, but they are neither. They are Gaspard and Lisa.
Lisa, with her white body and red scarf, is active and tries all kinds of things, even when she gets into trouble and says, "Oh no, I did it!" Gaspard, with his black body and blue scarf, is calm and timid, but when Lisa is in trouble, he is there to comfort, encourage, and protect her. The two are great friends and are full of energy, going to various places, playing tricks, and having adventures. Sometimes they get into trouble, but one of them is always there to help.
The “Gaspard and Lisa" series of picture books, created in France in 1999 by Anne Gutman and Georg Hallensleben, was first published in Japan in 2000 and quickly became a popular series that continues to fascinate children and adults alike. This exhibition, with "memories" as its keyword, will display original picture book drawings, works especially drawn to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the series' debut in Japan, and rare materials, including a video interview with the author.
