The exhibition "Matisse: Playing with Colors" commemorates the 15th anniversary of the Pola Ginza Building.
Henri Matisse is one of the most renowned painters of the 20th century. His works, boldly expressed with vivid colors, leave a strong impression on viewers, earning him the nickname "The Magician of Color" for his unique sense of color. Matisse's style, which directly conveys emotion, brings dynamism to his works, while his arrangement and balance of colors evoke a visual rhythm, much like music.
This exhibition will showcase five of Matisse’s masterpieces, including "Lute" from the Pola Museum’s collection, a prime example of his lifelong exploration of interior scenes. It will also feature "Jazz," a series of 20 prints considered one of his late masterpieces. Throughout the exhibition, special programs will be offered, including viewing sessions for parents with babies and interactive appreciation sessions designed for the elderly, including those with dementia, allowing everyone to enjoy these masterpieces. Additionally, a workshop led by paper-cutting artist Risa Fukui will teach participants the cut-out technique Matisse famously used.
