Hideyuki Hayashi
Hideyuki Hayashi, who passed away at 87 on March 29, 2024, had been active in the Japanese ceramics industry for many years. His works are highly regarded for their unique style and technique, blending traditional Japanese pottery culture with the contemporary art scene. The exhibition will feature representative works from the past 50 years and his latest creations, totaling over 90 pieces ranging from objet d'art to tea bowls and vessels.
As a member of the avant-garde group "Sodenka" which pioneered innovative trends in the ceramics world and as a leading figure in contemporary ceramics through his objet d'art works, Hayashi emphasized the value and importance of craftsmen in the world of ceramics. He also spoke about the role and responsibility of Japanese pottery culture, emphasizing its close connection to everyday life and the diversity of culture reflected in Kyoto's pottery culture. Recognizing the importance of contributing to the inheritance and development of culture, he created numerous avant-garde objet d'art works, prioritizing intuition and manual work over meticulous planning when making his objet d'art pieces. Despite realizing that his style of creating artworks was contrary to the pursuit of rationality and efficiency prevailing in society, he believed this contradiction was the source of creating interesting works.
