Hiraku Suzuki
For Hiraku Suzuki, the line is a medium that connects words and pictures, this side and that side, self and others, and promotes mutual penetration.

This exhibition will feature a large-scale installation of 40 works from the latest series "Meteorite Writes" (2023), works from the recent series "Constellation" (2018-21) and "Interexcavation" (2019), as well as a series of murals created on site.

The title of the exhibition refers to French thinker Roger Caillois's book "Stone Writes" (1970) and "Meteorite Writes" is an accumulation of various symbols, such as the trajectory of light reflected from stones moving in space, which respond to the vast amount of information contained in anonymous stones the artist found in his immediate surroundings, and which continue to be generated on a timeline far beyond human history. This is an attempt to inscribe on the screen as a new language the lines that continue to be generated on a time axis far beyond the history of mankind.

The exhibition venue is the museum's Contemporary Art Building (completed in 1997), designed by Arata Isozaki (1931-2022), an architect who sadly passed away at the end of last year. Isozaki conceived of the building as a cavity through which works of art would pass. As if echoing this concept, Suzuki will create a series of lines from exhibition room to exhibition room, from the cave where the oldest wall paintings of humankind are preserved to outer space, where creation and annihilation are repeated beyond human knowledge, in search of the origin and future of drawing and writing.
