Hirofumi Isoya
“Time” is one of the most rationalized and standardized concepts of modernity. In this exhibition “Duration, and Today” at ARTRO, a renovated warehouse from the Meiji-era, which is regarded as the beginning of Japan’s modern era, the artist installs his works in the tranquil and intimate time-space of historic Kyoto and reconsiders various interpretations of “time.”

The exhibition includes ceramic works that re-use 5,000-year-old earthenware shards to rearrange the time axis of the material, and an attempt to link the medium of photography, which can only capture the past, to the present. All works in this exhibition will be shown for the first time in Kyoto.
