Kazunori Nishiyama is a prominent contemporary illustrator whose work adorns the covers of numerous books and magazines, making his art visible across various media. Despite the visual simplicity, his images, characterized by refined color schemes, meticulously crafted compositions, and precisely controlled color fields, are remarkably profound. They incorporate elements absorbed from various contexts, including music, film, and art, combining and abstracting them to manifest on the canvas. What is depicted is a tranquil time akin to a gap that momentarily appears amid the hustle of daily life, conveying sensations and emotions that are challenging to articulate with words.
This academic year, Nishiyama has joined as a guest professor in the Illustration Course. Students have been dissecting Nishiyama's expressions in their classes, working on assignments that aim to unravel the intentions behind his artistic expressions. This "Kazunori Nishiyama Illustration Exhibition" is expected to serve as Nishiyama's response to what students have learned from his artwork.
