"Stones with Mischievous Faces!?"
Hirotoshi Ito, who runs a family stone masonry business, has garnered high praise internationally for his stone art. By leveraging surprising techniques and remarkable expression, he brings out the unique texture of stone in various works.
These mysterious creations, which are crafted by processing natural stone and adding different material parts, are hard to believe they are made of stone. Particularly, the zippers on the stone surfaces are so seamlessly attached that they appear as if they have always been there. Inside the zippers, visitors will find coins, plant seeds, and machine parts—things that become more astonishing the more they are looked at. His popular work "Tight-lipped Guys," which is also well-loved overseas, features teeth peeking out from a zipper, making it look as if the stone is alive and laughing. These expressions can sometimes seem like the stones are speaking, or even scheming something.
