This exhibition is a special display of artifacts excavated from the Motoyashiki Pottery Kiln Site, an Important Cultural Property, as part of the Oribe Day Commemorative Events.
The Motoyashiki Pottery Kiln Site, a National Historic Site, is a group of old kiln sites consisting of three large kilns and one linked climbing kiln located in Kusiri, Izumi-cho, Toki City. In particular, Oribe, produced at its peak in Mino's oldest continuous climbing kiln, attracted many tea masters and was mass-produced to meet their demands. A large number of pottery shards, which testify to the fashion of the time, were excavated from this site, 2,431 of which have been designated as Important Cultural Properties.
This exhibition will provide an overview of the world of Mino Momoyama ceramics, with its diverse playfulness and ingenuity, through ceramic shards of various sizes designated as Important Cultural Properties, along with related materials such as old documents, paintings, and ceramics from other areas of Japan.
