Gucci will hold a photo exhibition titled "In Focus: Yuzuru Hanyu - Lensed by Jiro Konami," featuring figure skater Yuzuru Hanyu, who assumed the role of brand ambassador, at the Gucci Ginza Gallery in Tokyo's Ginza district on May 22, 2024 (Wednesday).
Opened in June 2023, the Gucci Ginza Gallery serves as a dynamic space where visitors can experience the brand's core values of craftsmanship and innovation. It also fosters connections with artists and creators from both domestic and international backgrounds. The gallery's opening was marked by Yuzuru Hanyu's first-ever photo exhibition, "Yuzuru Hanyu: A Journey Beyond Dreams featured by Elle."
In March 2024, Gucci welcomed Yuzuru Hanyu as its new brand ambassador. The collaboration between Gucci and Hanyu culminates in this new photo exhibition, "In Focus: Yuzuru Hanyu Lensed by Jiro Konami." Renowned photographer Jiro Konami, known for his emotional style and work spanning various genres such as fashion, commercial, art, and youth culture, and based in New York, has captured Hanyu as his subject, focusing on the theme of his "authentic present."
Konami describes his approach to photography as follows: "The intriguing aspect of photography lies in how I instantaneously react to the subject's personality and thoughts. As I continue to engage with the subject, the relationship evolves, resulting in entirely different expressions from the first to subsequent shots." True to his words, viewers will encounter a Yuzuru Hanyu they have never seen before through Konami's photographs, as if the subject were right in front of them.
