New Collection In 2022, Shimonoseki City Art Museum acquired 1 Western-style painting, 3 watercolors and drawings, 7 photographs, 1 craftwork, and 2 documents. This exhibition introduces approximately 20 works and materials from these collections.
Of particular note are the works of photographer Sakiko Nomura and holography art pioneer Seizuko Ishii. Nomura's images of light shining faintly in the darkness give us a nostalgic feeling. Ishii's three-dimensional images change color and shape depending on the angle, inviting the viewer into another world. By exhibiting both artists' works in the same space, visitors will be able to see a different exhibition space.
The World of Flowers and Still Life Still life are paintings depicting familiar motifs such as flowers and birds. In the East, still life paintings have been depicted as flower-and-bird paintings. In flower-and-bird paintings, "living things" are depicted, such as plants and flowers growing out of the earth or fish swimming in a river. Western still-life paintings, on the other hand, depict motionless things and have been painted in Japan since the modern era.
This exhibition introduces approximately 30 works depicting flowers and still life paintings that herald the arrival of spring. This exhibition will showcase still life paintings mainly from the late Edo period, flower-and-bird paintings from the Taisho and Showa periods, and still life paintings in Japanese Western-style paintings from the modern era onward.
