Issey Miyake Publication Exhibit

21_21 Design Sight
Finished
This spring, Taschen, a publishing company from Germany, will release "Issey Miyake," a revised and expanded edition of the book originally published by the company in 2016. This book, edited by Midori Kitamura, a close collaborator of designer Issey Miyake for 50 years, serves as a comprehensive overview of Miyake's work from 1960 to 2022, featuring a redesigned cover.

The main focus of this commemorative exhibition is the garment piece "Rhythm Pleats," which graced the book cover. Introduced in Issey Miyake's Spring/Summer Collection in 1990, this piece is a dress made of pleated fabric in oval, circular, and square shapes. Its transformation from a two-dimensional to a dynamic three-dimensional form symbolizes Miyake's ability to convey surprise and joy through design.

Additionally, the exhibition will feature posters of this dress photographed by Irving Penn and graphically designed by Kazumasa Nagai. Books will also be available at the venue, allowing visitors to flip through the pages and explore some of Miyake's innovative works up close.
