Jeremy Elkin
Montreal-born, Tokyo-based filmmaker and photographer Jeremy Elkin will be releasing his first photo book, “Upmost for the Highest,” published by SUPER LABO. To celebrate the release of the publication, SUPER LABO STORE TOKYO will host a special exhibition.
The book brings together 50+ film photographs shot during a two-week research trip to Jamaica for Elkin’s upcoming feature-length documentary film project. Through encounters with the streets of Kingston and the people who sustain its music scene, the images capture the cultural atmosphere of the country and a window into the production process.
Featured are intimate portraits of legendary reggae artists such as Barrington Levy at his home, and Addis Pablo—the son of dub pioneer Augustus Pablo—during a recording session at Bob Marley’s Tuff Gong International Studio. Elkin’s work reflects both the historic weight of Jamaican music and its ever-evolving street culture.
The exhibition will feature a selection of print works from the book. The opening reception will be held on Friday, September 26 from 6pm-9pm.
